Jacki Boswell began walking the annual Champions Fighting Cancer Walk three years ago after beating her breast cancer diagnosis in 2019.
The annual walk raises money for Signature Healthcare cancer programs through the Greene Cancer Center and the Chrystine M. Sullivan Memorial Foundation.
The walk draws participants from across the region who walk in memory of loved ones they’ve lost to cancer and others who support people who have battled or are currently battling cancer.
Jacki is part of the team ‘Mammaries for Margaritas 3.0’, who have continued to walk every year to help others who have also been touched by cancer. The team has raised more than $12,000 for the walk over the last three years, said Jacki.
A Brockton native, Jacki knew Signature Healthcare’s Greene Cancer Center, affiliated with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, was a high-quality, viable option that would provide the same level of care as the treatment centers in Boston. “I was born at Brockton Hospital, I worked at Signature Healthcare, Brockton Hospital, and I beat my cancer at the Signature Healthcare, Greene Cancer Center.” She felt comfortable knowing that community connection offered a level of convenience and safe, quality cancer care that she wouldn’t have been able to get with the added stress of traveling to Boston for her care.
Jackie wanted to acknowledge oncologist Dr. Rolf Freter and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Edward "Chip" Malin for their world-class care. “I want people to know that we have this gem in our own backyard that is here for you during one of the most challenging times of your life.” Explained Jacki.
All proceeds from the walk benefit the cancer programs and services at Signature Healthcare, as well as the Christyne M. Sullivan Memorial Foundation, which supports the treatment of cancer patients, medical resources, cancer research, and other cancer-related support.
Signature Healthcare’s state-of-the-art Greene Cancer Center is a collaboration with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center that opened in 2017.
