Thank You for Great Care in the Air

While traveling on a flight from Boston, Massachusetts to West Palm Beach, Florida, Registered Nurse, Donna McCann, Service Line Director for Surgical Specialties at Signature Medical Group helped care for a fellow passenger after he experienced a medical emergency while in the air. The man’s wife sent the following letter thanking Donna for helping her husband.

On Friday, my husband and I were on a flight from Logan Airport to West Palm Beach International Airport. Thirty minutes into the flight, my husband said he was experiencing pressure and pain in his upper chest and it was not going away. After speaking with a flight attendant an announcement was made asking if any medical personnel were on board. Two people came forward, a doctor from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Registered Nurse, Donna McCann from Signature Healthcare.

I want to inform you of the highly professional manner in which Donna and the doctor and the flight attendants approached and handled what could have been a serious medical situation on the plane. They assessed his medical condition and determined the best course of action was for him to receive oxygen and a full aspirin and to lay on the floor of the plane. They remained with him for the duration of the flight.

Following our arrival in West Palm Beach we drove to a local Emergency Room where he received excellent care and followed up with his Cardiologist for a plan going forward.

Donna’s professional skills and caring manner of interacting with my husband and me were exemplary. Donna provided the highest level of care and used gentle humor to keep us relaxed. Her eyes were always monitoring my husband’s status with the doctor. Additionally, one of the flight attendants was a former EMT so we could not have been in better hands.

We hope Donna is recognized for her over-the-top professionalism onboard.

Thank you very much!
