Most Common Cancers We Treat

Breast

Treatment for Breast Cancer has evolved over the years. Signature Healthcare utilizes two exciting new technologies in the surgical treatment of breast cancer – wireless localization and intra-operative specimen imaging.

The majority of patients who undergo breast conservation surgery, also known as a “lumpectomy”, have a tumor that cannot be felt on a breast exam. Thus, the patient must have a localization procedure in order for the surgeon to be able to find the tumor in the breast at the time of its removal. Previously, these patients had to have an external wire placed in their breast directly prior to coming to the operating room.

With the new wireless system, a radiofrequency identification tag (RFID) is placed in the breast at the tumor site on any day/time convenient for the patient prior to the surgery day. The tumor is then localized by the breast surgeon in the operating room using a handheld radiofrequency monitor that guides the surgeon to the tumor. The benefits of this new wireless localization technique are multiple.

  • It is more convenient, less invasive and more comfortable for the patient.
  • It allows the surgeon to make the incision site in a location that results in a better cosmetic appearance of the breast.

Gastrointestinal

We treat a variety of gastrointestinal cancers including,

  • Anal
  • Colon
  • Esophageal
  • Rectal

Lung

Signature Healthcare’s thoracic surgery team is board certified — an indicator for best quality outcomes. We perform surgical procedures, with an emphasis on minimally invasive techniques, to diagnose and treat lung, esophageal and other chest-related cancers.

Prostate

Xofigo
We are the only Xofigo licensed treatment facility in the area. Xofigo uses Radium 223 to treat prostate cancer that no longer responds to hormonal or surgical treatment that lowers testosterone. It is for men whose prostate cancer has spread to the bone with symptoms but not to other parts of the body.

Prostate Cancer imaging

We also offer prostate imaging utilizing PET/CT with the recently FDA-approved radioactive tracer Gallium (Ga) 68 PSMA 11. This new prostate-specific membrane antigen, used with PET/CT imaging, has been shown to significantly improve how we identify and treat prostate cancer, with up to 43% changes in staging and 59% changes in radiotherapy planning.

Non-Malignant Hematology - We also treat the whole spectrum of non-malignant hematology.
