Brockton Hospital School of Nursing Constructing New State-of-the-Art Facility

The Brockton Hospital School of Nursing has a rich legacy dating back to 1897, graduating thousands of nurses who have gone on to provide unprecedented nursing care to hundreds of thousands of patients. However, the 121-year old Brockton Hospital School of Nursing building is reaching the end of its functionality. The original building where this storied nursing program began still houses the school today, with no capacity for growth or expansion.

Approximately 250 students attend the school annually, varying in age, gender, culture, ethnicity and economic backgrounds. As the only R.N. diploma nursing school in Massachusetts still located on a hospital campus, we provide a superb education to those seeking to enter the workforce after two years of nursing education. Our goal is to maintain that proximity to Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, while providing an exceptional education for the nurses of the future in a modern, accommodating and welcoming space. The ADA compliant, 13,800 square feet of classroom, office, library and support space in a 20,000 square foot building will accommodate 150 students per class.

Main features of the new building include:

• State-of-the-Art Simulation Program: the Brockton Hospital School of Nursing will feature one of the most sophisticated simulated learning labs in the region, including an observation/control room with computers for every mannequin (varying age and gender) and one-way mirrors that allow faculty to direct and evaluate student performance without being by the student’s side.

• Student Success Center: this centralized space within the School of Nursing will offer a variety of services, including academic coaching, supplemental instruction, professional tutoring and peer mentoring.

• Improved Wireless Technology and Learning Access: providing students with laptop devices and wireless access will allow them to carry out their assignments and stay connected from anywhere in the school – and beyond – replacing an antiquated Computer Lab and a network.

The completion date for construction on the new building is expected in time for the fall 2019 semester. View the construction progress beginning in October 2018 below.
